My family and I have just driven back from Adelaide after conducting photo shoots of the three of the top golf courses in the city of churches - Royal Adelaide, Kooyonga and Glenelg.

The fortunate thing about Adelaide is the close proximity of all of these courses to one another meaning we could stay in the Glenelg area and I could get to all 3 courses within a maximum of 12 minutes (you get used to measuring times this accurately when you are trying to get to a golf course in time for first light in the morning).

Doing a shoot of 3 golf courses on different properties requires a bit of planning and good fortune in relation to the weather. We were in Adelaide for a period of 6 days which effectively gave me 11 sessions to capture 3 courses (54 golf holes). No easy task really and combined with the fickle Adelaide weather was a bit more challenging. 3 of the sessions were either washed out or clouded over meaning extra pressure for the remaining sessions.

But in the end it all worked out and I managed to capture what I feel was the essence of each of these 3 courses.

Royal Adelaide - 3rd hole (wonderful short par 4 which gets you scratching your head about how best to play the hole)

Glenelg - 16th hole, a course recently redesigned by Neil Crafter and adjacent to Adelaide Airport (surprisingly not that much noise from the flights taking off and landing)

Kooyonga - 4th hole, a challenging up and over a hill par 4 with the approach shot playing downhill to a green protected by bunkers left and right.

It is interesting to note that depending on the time of the year and conditions in the lead up to a shoot courses present completely differently. The greenness of fairways varies considerably as does the overall freshness of a golf course. The south of Australia has been feeling the affects of a drought meaning golf courses are playing firmer and faster. This also means the aesthetics of a course is different to say a course in Sydney which has had a lot of rain.
